iPower Theatre Collective – Starting Tomorrow!
iPower Theatre Collective is a new program at Quest to Learn, which practices Integrative Theatre – theatre that integrates art and culture into story. Through improvisation, theatre, music, dance, writing and visual art, social/cultural issues are explored and expressed. Our workshop is built upon a foundation of understanding the nature of bullying, and will expand to related issues: self-esteem; exploitation; body image; racism; sexism; violence; suicide; and ultimately, personal empowerment.
Each participant is encouraged to reflect upon their own life, and to contribute their personal talents. By providing a safe, fertile, creative landscape to honor their instincts, we will nurture student artists who learn to employ reverence, not only for fellow artists, but for the broader community. We believe that healing is inherently possible through art, and that theatre and education form a synergy.
The culminating theatre piece will integrate short plays, monologues, music, dance, image and art – with performances for our school community. Our long-term goal is to empower our students to be leaders in the community; to further the conversation of inclusiveness, and to facilitate concrete actions for community service.
Twelve-week project meets on Wednesdays, 2:30-6:30, starting 9/20.
